Drought had hit Maharashtra particularly
it's Northern and Western parts once again and Government is trying to motivate
the affected people by giving them employment through MNREGA. Under The Mahatma
Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 Government has planned to
implement The State Convergence Plan.
The plan will provide the employment
in 28 different work categories like Collective Farm Ponds, Collective dug
wells and other water harvesting structures, Vermi compost pits, Cattle sheds,
Goat sheds, Poultry sheds, pig Sheds, building walls for Schools, Kitchen for
school, Concrete Sewer, Grampanchayat Bhavan, Wire crate (gabion) Stone Earthen
Structures etc. The Drought affected people will now get work and some money
for their survival through State Convergence Plan.
“We have decided to implement State
Convergence Plan to generate more and more employment through MNREGA while
creating personal as well as public properties. Grampanchayats should take an
initiative to implement these schemes in their villages and benefit the farmers
to fight the Drought situation,” Employment Guarantee Minister Jaykumar Rawal
said while addressing the press.

It is fixed that what kind of work
has to be done under MNREGA, thoug Maharashtra Government has joined the Act
with the State Convergence Plan. Every year MNREGA creates Labour Budget and
Annual Action Plan during 15th August to 30th November. There are 260 work
categories are listed in MNREGA. Maharashtra Government has selected 28 works
to Converge to fight the Drought situation. Government has also decided to take
assistance from Social Institutions and Social Responsibility Funds to cover
the works under the MNREGA.
There are 11 segment program of
Jankalyan Scheme are being implemented in Maharashtra through MNREGA. 13,123
works has been done through this plan in last 4 years. Many farmers got the
work to their hand through this plan. There are 30,898 wells and 97,201 farm
ponds has been built through Ahilyadevi Irrigation Well Scheme which made many
hectors of land irrigated. 20 crore 75 lakhs of plants has been seeded under
Ankur Nursery Scheme. The drought affected people will surely get the benefit
of Government's initiative for sure.
